First Line Management training for Fisheries

Applications are invited for scholarships for the Certificate IV in First Line Management (FLM) contextualised for fisheries. 

FFA is committed to the capacity development of our Members and ensuring, where possible, the training delivered is internationally recognised and provides our Officers with certificates of qualification. 

Commencing on March 22, 2021, successful applicants will enrol with the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) in New Zealand. This is an online, one-year, study program consisting of four  courses, each course is 10 weeks in length:  

∙ Effective Team Leadership 

∙ Achieving Team Objectives 

∙ Team Management and Motivation 

∙ Performance and Variance Management 

With COVID19 affecting National Observer Programs, the Secretariat considers this, to be an opportune time for National Observer Coordinators, PIRFO Trainers and PIRFO Trainee Trainers to develop their skills in leadership, education and motivation. However, the course is also open to fisheries officers that hold a supervisory or leading role.  

The FFA Training Committee will consider all nominations and will award up to 15 scholarships to  successful applicants based on the following criteria: 

Essential selection criteria: 

1. The nominee is employed in a fisheries role in an FFA Member country and holds a leading,  supervisory or mentoring role; 

2. The nominee’s employer agrees to provide support to the nominee and permit study time and  attendance to at least 4 online face-to-face sessions during the year;

3. The nominee commits to a schedule of 10 hours of study per week and attendance to 4 online face-to-face sessions during the study period, each online session shall be approximately 2 hours in length;  

4. The nominee is not undertaking any other course of study; 

5. Nominees must have good English reading and writing skills.
